OUR MINISTRIES

Online Sermon's

Woodland Hills Men's Ministries GO BACK

BACKGROUND
The Bible makes it abundantly clear that men are to take the primary leadership role in Christ’s church.  To accomplish that, men need to be mature disciples. Not only are men to be leaders in Christ’s church but also they are to be leaders in their families, to be credible witnesses in the marketplace, and to have a deep abiding relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. “That sounds impossible!”  And the fact is that without Christ, and without other men to encourage us and empathize with us, it is impossible.

PURPOSE
The purpose of our Men’s Ministries is to equip our men to be mature disciples. We encourage our men to Connect with God, Connect with other men in the body, and Connect with our world. We want them to become fully developed followers of Jesus Christ – Mature Disciples – nothing less and nothing more. As a result, our men will become better able to lead properly.

Detailed explanations of some opportunities

Thursday Men’s Bible Fellowship

WHO IS IT FOR?
This Bible Fellowship is for all men of Woodland Hills Church. It is for married men, single men, widowed men, old men, young men, middle aged men, short men, fat men, gifted men, average men, and struggling men. There are no prerequisites for attendance except be honest with your struggles. If you have a desire to grow in Christ and become a fully developed Disciple, COME!

WHEN DO WE MEET?
We meet every week, Thursday morning at 6:30 A.M. We start promptly at 6:30 A.M. and end promptly at 7:30 A.M. so men can plan their time and get to work. Three weeks a month we have a light breakfast and one week a month we have a hearty one.

INVITATION
If you feel like the Spirit of God is encouraging you to grow in your faith, JOIN US! “As iron sharpens iron” we want to learn what it means to be a disciple in a group of ordinary men trying to become godly men together.

WHAT DO WE DO?
We pray together, and open our Bibles together and study it. Our objective is to not just learn what the Bible says, but teach our men “How to rightly study the Bible.” We want to teach “how to fish,” as well as “how to eat fish.” You can be as quiet as you like or as open as you are comfortable being. We sometimes fly at 40,000 feet above the passage, but most often take our time working through passages one verse at a time. Iron sharpening iron is a good description of what we do.

Why?
Men need a plumb line for their lives, and an anchor in this time of uncertainty, filled with a shifting “sea of ideas.” God’s Word is a solid foundation in a world filled with confusion. We want our men solidly anchored, connected to God and connected to other men!

Annual Men's Retreat

WHO IS IT FOR?
It is for all men of Woodland Hills Church, and usually for boys older than 12 years of age. We also welcome guests. If you have a desire to grow in Christ, relax in a natural setting, get to know some men more deeply than Sundays or Thursdays allow, and to learn how to be honest with your struggles, COME!

WHEN DO WE MEET?
Usually once per year in the winter or early spring, we go off to a camp like setting in the mountains.

INVITATION
If you feel like the Spirit of God is encouraging you to grow in your faith, JOIN US! “As iron sharpens iron” we want to learn what it means to be godly men together.

WHAT DO WE DO?
We help you connect to God and to other men in a practical way. We pray together, and open our Bibles together and study it. Each year we have a theme and a program that is suited to men and young adolescent boys.

Annual Wild Game Night

WHO IS IT FOR?
It is for all men of Western North Carolina, especially those who would not otherwise enter the doors of a church. It is for outdoorsmen and genuine testosterone filled males who think Christianity is for “Sissy’s.” Invite your friends, relatives, neighbors, and associates to come. The rougher the better.

WHEN DO WE MEET?
Usually once per year in the winter or early spring, we put up a tent or use the gym and bring in wild game of every sort to tempt the hungriest and tantalize the curious.

INVITATION
If you have a friend  or acquaintance who wouldn’t come to church on a bet, but would love to taste wild turkey, or caribou, bring them to this all male night out!

WHAT DO WE DO?
We eat like ancient kings an incredible array of wild game dishes, we listen to hunting and fishing stories that get larger and better every year, and we have at least on male testimony or speaker who will share the gospel.

Practical Ministries Through Baptist Men

WHO IS IT FOR?
It is for all men of Woodland Hills Church, who are particularly gifted in practical helps: strong arms, backs and legs; talented in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and the like; and who draw maximum satisfaction from quietly serving the body of Christ in practical ways! You will have an opportunity to fellowship with like-minded men and see the body of Christ in action in some of the most critical and needy situations imaginable.

WHEN DO WE MEET?
Usually several times per year when disasters strike the Baptist Men are called out. They may also work on local projects for widows, orphans, and the needy of our church body.

INVITATION
If you feel like the Spirit of God is encouraging you to grow in your faith and to exercise your gifts of practical service, then JOIN US! “As iron sharpens iron” we want to learn what it means to be godly men together, as we sweat together, shoulder to shoulder.

WHAT DO WE DO?
We usually have a practical objective like: rebuild a home; paint a school; re-side a church; clear all the mud from a flood ravaged neighborhood; or the like. We eat hearty together, shower infrequently, and sleep well after a good days work. We return with maximum satisfaction that we have been the arms and legs and helping hand of Jesus to the people we have helped. That is immense satisfaction!
